Younju's Reviews

Memorable Meeting
Anime (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

I've only read the first chapter of this fan-fiction but found this quite interesting. The characters' personalities are very similar to the original story, and the story deals with an interesting subject called time traveling. The process how Tsuna got back into past is not revealed in the first chapter and this creates a sense of curiosity to the readers making them read the next chapter. The last part of the chapter was interesting as well as an unknown character's voice was heard when Giotto found Tsuna lost in the corridor. This left me a big curiosity who the unknown character could be. Overall, the whole story had an interesting start and ending, and it made me look forward to the next chapter.

Blood Type
Anime (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

In this fan-fiction, Gokudera is angry and depressed at the fact that he cannot donate blood to Tsuna because Tsuna's blood type is A and his blood type is B. As Gokudera is very sensitive at 'being helpful to his boss', he gets jealous at Yamamoto and other characters who can donate their blood to Tsuna. But at the end, Tsuna gives him hope by saying that its not like Gokudera can change his blood type from B to A, and Tsuna himself don't know how that gave hope to Gokudera.

This fan-fiction was very short with 717words in total, but the story was quite fun to read as a light fan-fiction. It was interesting to find out how the writer wrote about each character's blood type that I didn't think of before. The characters were mostly correct to the original and I could easily imagine Gokudera being depressed when he found out that he cant help his boss when he need blood. To me, it was a fresh idea that the writer thought of the character's blood type and their reaction to them.

Expressing Tsuna's thoughts to Gokudera was helpful to understand how Tsuna came up with saying 'kind words' (only Gokudera thinks that) to him. However, at first I thought the apostrophe was a speech mark and got quite confused. In this part, I thought it could have been better if the writer wrote sentences describing that it was Tsuna's thoughts. Apart from the little confusion I got during the read, it was an interesting fan-fiction.

It's Monday Again
Anime (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

This fan-fiction holds the feelings and thoughts Gokudera has in his mind when he meets Tsuna in daily life. The writer simply described what is in Gokudera's mind to every action Tsuna does, but the description was in quite detail as well. It was fun to read how he thinks about Yamamoto, mentioning him as a baseball idiot.

It was a fairly straight forward fan-fiction, and I found this amusing as the writer wrote their daily life similar to the original, but slightly different. Gokudera wanting to be the most helpful person around Tsuna was the main part of the story and was written effectively. The part when he mention about Tsuna's smile to him appeared twice, at the beginning and at the end. This expressed the change of Gokudera's emotions and therefore I found this repetition quite interesting. It lead me to compare difference in Gokudera's feelings at the beginning and at the end, and I could understand that he can be happy all of a sudden by just seeing Tsuna smiling at him.

Only thing that I thought was disappointing was the point of view of the fan-fiction. The writer wrote this in third-person's POV describing Gokudera's feeelings, and I thought it could had been better if it was written in Gokudera's own POV. It could have been more detailed.

Watch Over Me Forever
Anime (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

This fan-fiction tells a story about Tsuna meeting Giotto when he was 5 years old. Giotto turns out to be an angel and he follows Tsuna around watching him and protecting him. It was enjoyable sharing the writer's imagination of Tsuna's childhood, and the fact that he even met Giotto in the past was interesting.

The idea of the fan-fiction was fresh. The story was fluent in most of the situations, but in some parts, it suddenly jumped into future leaving out the contents between the two scenes. I found this quite unfinished because it left me with a curiosity about the process how the next situation came up.

Other thing that needed improvement was the grammar. The writer wrote some words in past tense where it was supposed to be written in present tense, and this continued throughout the fan-fiction. I found these mistakes a bit disturbing as I had to correct it in my mind while reading it. Also, there were few spelling mistakes in some words. This didn't disturb me understand the idea of the sentences but I thought that it could have been better if the writer checked for the spelling mistakes one more time before publishing the fan-fiction.

Christmas Isn't Always Horrible
Anime (Durarara!!)

The first appearance of this fan-fiction was frustrating as the writer used too many adjectives where unnecessary. The description of Izaya's feeling towards humans and how he think about them was effective. However, it contained too much that it confused me as i read through.

Izaya's personality was very similar to the original story, but I found that Shizuo's personality was a little inaccurate. In the original story, Izaya and Shizuo hate each other so much that they always fight and chase, and Shizuo throw vending machines to Izaya. But in this fan-fiction, Shizuo said "Merry Christmas" to Izaya. I thought that this phrase could be too polite to be said by Shizuo, especially to Izaya.

Except for Shizuo's character, I enjoyed reading this fan-fiction. Izaya's thoughts and expressions towards human-being was well described.

The Day We Met Was Like A Hit & Run
Anime (Durarara!!)

This fan-fiction has twisted Masaomi and Saki's relationship into brother and sister. Kida is left alone as Saki dies in an accident and he thinks that nothing is left around him in Ikebukuro(a town in Tokyo, Japan). But as he meets Mikado, he finds the lost smile and warmth. This fan-fiction has twisted Kida and Mikado's relationship into a setting that they've never met each other before. Where in the original story they are friends since young.

I found this fan-fiction very interesting as the writer made Saki a sister of Masaomi. The sudden death of her written right at the beginning of the story informed me why Masaomi was in depression when he met Mikado. The scene when Masaomi and Mikado met each other was a fascinating scene to read, because the writer deeply described Masaomi's feelings and the image of Mikado's first approach in detail. As I was reading this scene, I could easily imagine Mikado's appearance in my head.

One thing I thought the writer could have improved more was the length of the fan-fiction. The writer wrote a great detailed story but the length of it was quite short. This could have been improved by adding some more description about the mysterious character who asked Masaomi if he/she could help him.

Overall, the fan-fiction was calm and moving. It made me imagine how Masaomi and Mikado could have met when they were young because the original story excluded the story of the two boys' first meeting.

The City At Night
Anime (Durarara!!)

This fan-fiction's main characters were Yumasaki and Karisawa, the couple who does not appear very often in the original story. The story of this fan-fiction was about the love between them and Yumasaki first seeing Karisawa with her hair down.

The structure of the writing was fairly simple. Simple sentences, simple words and simple paragraphs. This made the story quite boring as the writer just simply described the actions and dialogues of the characters. The two main character's feelings were not described as detail as the other fan-fictions. It did not show any excitement of the situation, and it did not hold any emotional effects in the story. I thought that the writing needs some improvement in expressing the characters feelings to make the story more colorful.

Also, the character's personality did not match with the original. Both characters are very humorous and comedic in the original story, but in this, the writer changed them too much. While reading it, I could not imagine the picture of Karisawa being all shy when she untied her hair down infront of Yumasaki. I did not like that the writer changed her characteristic too much that it made a big gap between the original Karisawa and fan-fiction Karisawa.

The fan-fiction was quick and simple. But because of that, it did not leave any aftertaste to the readers which made it quite boring.

Seven Days
Anime (Natsume Yuujin-Chou)

In this fan-fiction, Natsume need to protect a shrime more than 300 years old. He draws up a circle in the forest with writings and patterns that can protect both him and the shrime from bad yokai(Japanese monster). He cannot go out of the circle until he fills up the 7 days otherwise the yokais will attack him.

I found this fan-fiction very interesting and heart-warming. Natsume fighting over his own dependence and never giving up moved me, and his character was very similar to the original story as well. Nyanko Sensei turning up in the climax when Natsume almost got eaten by a Yokai was an impressive scene. This also appealed Natsume and Nyanko Sensei's friendship.

However, the story and process of how Natsume fell into this situation wasn't told. It made the story feel quite unfinished. Because the story started from when Natsume already stayed in the circle for 6 days, I thought that it would have been better if the writer wrote how this situation came up.

Seize the Masquerade
Anime (Kimini Todoke)

In this fan-fiction, the writer collected and divided different scenes from the anime into paragraphs. Each paragraphs holds a detailed description of Sawako's image from Shota's point of view. Lots and lots of adjectives and describing words used, but it was very interesting to find out how Shota's impression to Sawako was in each scene.

I only read the prologue of this fan fiction. At first I didn't know that it was in series so I was curious why it was short, but I found out that there was other chapters after it. As I read through this fan fiction, I did not get the writer's purpose of writing paragraphs of scenes that don't connect, but it was very interesting to see the story in Shota's point of view. How he thought of Sawako when he first met her, and when he first saw her smile.

This fan-fiction was an interesting work, but I thought that I need to find out more by reading through the later chapters to understand the writer's purpose of this prologue. But overall, it was a calm and quiet writing.

We Wear Pink on Tuesday
Anime (Black Butler)

In this fan fiction, Elizabeth holds a ball party with almost every characters in the original story. During the party, a random cat called Jeff appears and introduces himself as an angel who came down to observe human's behavior. This kind of fan-fiction was be a different twist to read but I thought that the writer did not express this creative story effectively.

The dialogue had too many slang words which kind of made the whole fan-fiction irritating. I knew that the writer included that to show the character's personality, but those slang words also appeared in other parts than dialogues. I found this quite boring and irritating as it kept on appearing where unnecessary. However, this helped me understand the new character Jeff's personality, and this made a contrast between the image of him now and when he was in an angel form.

The part that I felt disturbing was that the writer changed the characters' personalities too much. I didn't like it that the writer totally changed them as a homosexual character. It was the worst twist I have ever read.
